- <p> DIED. Northrop Frye, 78, Canadian critic and professor best
- known for his analysis of literary archetypes, Anatomy of
- Criticism; in Toronto. Frye first made his mark in 1947 with
- Fearful Symmetry, his pioneering study of the English Romantic
- poet William Blake. In literature, Frye contended, the
- recurrence of such common images as the sea or the forest can
- be understood only as archetypes connecting one poem with
- another, thus integrating our reading.
